WordPress.com Vs Wordpress.org

WordPress.com versus WordPress.org

I believe most beginners ask a similar question to this "What's the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org?"

WordPress.com
WordPress.com is a fully hosted version of WordPress. here you are only concerned with creating your blog directly with looking for a third party host. with WordPress.com you don't have to pay for hosting, or manage a web server. Although it is free, commercial and filled with hassle free features which are free of cost, it comes with certain sets of limitations.

• WordPress.com allocates 3GB of space to all blogs After that, you will have to pay for space at $19.95 per year for 5GB or $289.97 per year for 100GB.

• You get stuck with a subdomain like yoursite.wordpress.com if you can't pay 17usd to buy a Custom domain from them. You can't purchase your domain from a third party site. definitely not encouraging.

•WordPress display ads on their fully hosted version and to get rid of the ads you need pay for ad-free option at $29.97 per year.

• You pay to get a custom design upgrade at $30 per year.
Note; Paying for these services is optional.

• You are can't sell ads on your site unless you receive up-to 25,000 pageviews per month. if you receive such pageview, you have to apply to try their feature called Ad control. although the approval process does not cost you any money, you have to split your revenues 50/50 with them.

• You cannot use plugins with WordPress.com does not allow you to use plugins. If you want to use plugins, then you have to move to their VIP program which starts at $3750 per month.

• You cannot use custom theme, thus you have to make d with the templates you find on WordPress.com

Even after spending almost 80usd on your blog, you do not have full control of its ownership... WordPress can take down your blog at anytime. So while using WordPress.com follow their terms and conditions.

WordPress.com is good for personal bloggers who just want to blog for fun with no intentions of monetizing

WordPress.org
Unlike WordPress.com, wordpress.org is a self hosted version of WordPress. To make use of WordPress.org, you need a hosting plan which will cost you some money. Bluehost hosts WordPress site for 4.95usd per month. You will need to research and install your own themes and plugins . Many hosting providers like Bluehost offer a one-click installation of WordPress.

• Unlike the latter, you have full control of your site
• You don't need an upgrade neither do you need to share your earnings or get faced with annoying adds.
• You can upload and use plugins.
• You can upload custom themes. Modify theme files (not just styles) if needed.

With WordPress.org, unlike WordPress.com you are the super admin so all upgrades are done by you ranging from protecting your blog against hackers and spammers to backing up and many others...
while your WordPress.org site grows, so does the hosting cost... but that doesn't matter because your site must have made you quite a lot of money.

WordPress.com is a great choice for bloggers, photographers, artists, plumbers, doctors, restaurateurs — almost anyone. However, techies that prefer to maintain full control over their code, should consider hosting their own WordPress installation.
